What to expect

Regardless of your child's age, you can count on us to care for your child and tell him/her about Jesus. Click on a menu option for more information specific to your child's age.

Infants

We know that leaving your new baby for the first time can be overwhelming. The volunteers in our infant and crawler classrooms have been chosen for this age group because of their love of babies and their training and care for all of the needs of your infant. We hope that the following information will help you and your baby have a great experience on their first visit!

Please bring diapers, bottles, pacifiers, and any special blankets that will soothe your baby.

We promote your baby from this classroom based on development. So when they start walking, they will move to the walker room. Our Check-In Greeters will communicate this move to you in advance.

Toddlers through Younger 2's

This is a fun and active stage in your preschooler's life! We are excited to have them in class and look forward to teaching them about Jesus!

Our teaching begins in the Older 1s class (16-23 months). Although it looks like we're "playing" we are learning key concepts through learning centers, a Bible story and art. At this age, your child will begin to learn to say "Bible" and "Jesus".

In the Younger 2s Class (2 Years - 2 1/2 Year Olds) We continue to use learning centers. Your preschooler will be in their first learning circle for the Bible story and will begin to learn Bible phrases! Your preschooler will receive a take home sheet with the Bible story and picture they heard and learned for the day plus an at home activity to reinforce the lesson. We ask that you take time during the week to read the Bible story to your child and review the Bible verse!

We provide toys, activities and snacks in the classrooms. We usually serve Goldfish crackers, Cheerios and Fruit Loops with water. If we are serving something else, you will find a poster on the check-in station informing you of the food item. Please let us know if there are any food allergies. If your child cannot eat our normal snack of Goldfish Crackers/Cheerios/Fruit Loops, please pack a special snack for your child and we will gladly serve it to him or her.

Be sure to pack a full change of clothing including socks/tights as children do have accidents potty training! Please label and bring diapers. Please let us know if your child is potty training and how to work with him or her to be successful!

Please leave at home extra toys, candy, sippy cups or snacks as it is hard to remember which child brought what and lollipops, sippy cups and donuts cause frustration to the other children in class who do not have them. Your child will be promoted from this preschool area based on date of birth.

Older 2's through Kindergarten

Our Hillvue Sunday School teachers believe that we connect preschoolers and their families to Jesus! Your preschooler will be introduced to Jesus and their Heavenly Father, and before they leave our preschool ministry area, they will know who Jesus is, what Jesus did for everyone and how they can be with their Heavenly Father forever!

For our Older 2s to Kindergarteners, our curriculum is learning-center-oriented as the best way preschoolers learn is hands-on and through creative play! Your preschooler may be dressing up in Biblical costumes, baking bread, or building with blocks, but each activity will relate to the Bible story. They will learn a Bible verse every week.

Our Kindergartener curriculum is unique in that it models what your Kindergartner is learning in school! Your Kindergartner will be learning two new Bible words each week along with definitions and will learn to sort, count, write and match just as they do in Kindergarten. Your Kindergartner will begin to learn basic Bible skills, such as looking up verses, Books of the Bible and learning Books of the Bible. We encourage parents to provide their Kindergartner with a Bible to bring to class each week.

Your Older 2-Kindergartner will receive a take home sheet with the Bible story and picture they heard and learned for the day plus an at home activity to reinforce the lesson. We ask that you take time during the week to read the Bible story to your child and review the Bible verse!

Each classroom has a separate, private, preschool-sized bathroom. The child will use the bathroom on their own, with the teacher reminding them to wash their hands.

Your child will be promoted to each new classroom preschool based on date of birth until they reach Pre-K. When they reach Pre-K they will promote to Pre-K and Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year. A child will be Pre-K if their birth date falls on or before 10/01 of the current year. This is our state's cutoff for Pre-K and Kindergarten.
